Daredevil (2003)
Starring: Ben Affleck, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Gardner, Michael Clarke Duncan
Type: superhero action movie
Think: Spiderman in bondage
The thought of Ben Affleck fighting crime in a gimp suit is not at the outset an appealing thought. But put that to one side. This is a pretty good movie. Ben Affleck plays a blind lawyer Matt Murdoch who was given special powers by the same toxic waste that blinded him as a child. Thes powers give him a radar vision and heightened senses, and the desire to fight crime. Enter the Kingpin(Clarke Duncan), a new york crime boss with visions of taking over the city. When his machinations are thwarted by a costumed superhero called Daredevil he recruits deadly assassin Bullseye( Colin Farrell) to take out this costumed menace.
Catch me if you Can (2003)
It’s great to see Spielberg turn his back on Sci-fi for a moment. Minority report showed us that AI was just a blip Catch me if you can is the story of a loveable con-man; Frank Abagnale, Jr. (Leonardo Di Caprio) worked as a doctor, a lawyer and as a co-pilot for a major airline -- all before his 18th birthday. A master of deception, he was also a brilliant forger, whose skill gave him his first real claim to fame: At the age of 17, Frank Abagnale, Jr. became the most successful bank robber in the history of the United States. FBI Agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) had made it his prime mission to capture Frank and bring him to justice, but Frank is always one step ahead of him, baiting him to continue the chase.
This all star cast which includes not only Hanks and DiCaprio but also Christopher Walken, the evergreen Martin Sheen and Jennifer Garner ( Alias and soon to go meteoric after Daredevil). Well paced and effortlessly watchable (though maybe a mite long at 140minutes), this is an old school movie like Bonnie and Clyde that sees you rooting for the likeable rogue who hurts noone except the bank’s balance
